Everything

Developed as part of the Cinema Island project placed at the K11 Art Mall in Hong Kong. In a short film, entitled Everything, we encounter aspirations of luxury, the fantasies of the early stages of consumerism pictured by Gustave Flaubert in his novel Madame Bovary. 150 years after publication, some of its tropes find resonance in contemporary Hong Kong. The image of the city, marked by the presence of the peak and represented through archival footage, is offset by a different texture, that of the building blocks of typeface, which allow sharing through language. The evocative repetition of composing the script on the letterpress creates a counterpoint to the seduction of the narrator’s voice.

Exploring new forms of engagement with the public, Cinema Island tests the boundaries of the local, of the material and immaterial, reflecting upon existing and imagined economies of desire.
